SUMMER 2008
Q: What time does class start/stop?
A: Group warm-ups and announcements start at EXACTLY 9AM. Please try
to be a few minutes early so the children have time to come in join
the circle on time.
We end at 12:30. Parents who wish to come in to get their children, please
wait in the lobby for them to be sent out to you.
PICK-UP: We do not have the resources the public schools do for supervised
pick-up. If your child is younger, please come in to pick them up. If
you trust them to come out to your car that is fine. No child will be
left alone. If you are running late picking up, just give me a call and
let me know. No problem.
Q: What should they wear?
A: GRUBBIES! The children will be working in our theatre which is a dusty
old warehouse. Some days they will be painting or making crafts. It
will always be a little dirty, a little hot, and they will get very
physical. Light, loose old clothes are best.
SNEAKERS please send your child in sneakers. For safety sake: we are
in a WORKING theatre. Nails, screws, glass, splinters.... there are any
number of things they can step on if not paying attention. For theatre
sake: flip flops and crocks don’t allow them to move freely when
we play certain theatre games or dance.
Q: Should I pack a lunch or a drink?
A: No. At 10:30 the kids get a non-nutritious, sugar, fat and salt filled
treat and kool-aid. (If your child has health issues and needs a healthy
snack, please let me know and I will provide them.)
Ice- Water is always provided in each class room. When you send water
bottles they just get left all over the place.
Q: Is it the same program every week?
A: No. It is the same FORMAT every week, but the plays the children perform
are different. Many of the same games and exercises are used but this
allows the repeating children to practice them more.
Q: Are the kids divided by ages?
A: Yes and No.... If there are a lot of very young children (5 year olds)
in a particular week than we do put them in a class together and they
perform a very simple play. Older kids get mixed up in different groups.
Q: Can my children be in the same class despite age difference?
A: Any time siblings or friends attend camp together we give them the
option of being together or being separate. It is always in the children’s
control so they feel comfortable.
Q: What play will my child be in?
A: We can’t say in advance. While most of the scripts for the summer
are pre-selected, the exact script performed by a group in any given
week is a last minute decision based on number of children in the group
and their ages, gender and abilities.
Q: Who are the teachers?
A: The teachers for KidsCamp are a variety of people who have theatre
experience. Some are actors, some are teachers, some are teenagers.
We are proud to have such a wide assortment of theatre experience to
offer the children.
All teachers are people who have been connected
to our theatre for a number of years and have proved themselves trustworthy.
The teenagers teaching class during camp are teens that have been in
training for the past several months. They have selected scripts, practiced
directing them and are under my personal supervision.
In summers past, the children LOVE working with the teens, (who are cool,)
and it has been very successful.
Q: My child has issues........ (health, ADD, shy, behavior etc....)
A: Any child with special needs will probably end up in my personal class
so that I can monitor/help them as needed.
Q: What if
we can’t
come on Saturday?
A: The show on Saturday is the whole focus of the work done during
the week. If you can’t commit to coming to the show on Saturday,
PLEASE, do not sign your child up for the camp!
Q: Can we bring guests to the Saturday show?
A: Yes! Everyone is welcome. There is no charge for the show however
we do accept donations.
Q: Where is the camp?
A: KidsCamp is part of the Newnan Theatre Company. We are located at
24 First Avenue in Newnan. This is only a few blocks from downtown
Newnan.
Q: What about refunds?
A: A full refund is provided if your child cannot attend the camp that
has been paid for already (family emergency, heath issues.) If for
some reason the child is just not happy or participating in class a
partial refund may be available. We do all we can to make a positive
experience for all campers, however we know you can’t please
all the people all the time. All cases are individual.
Q: My child is ALMOST 5 can she/he come?
A: It has been our experience that children under age 5 just do not have
the attention span or memorization abilities needed for camp.
Q: If my child likes camp the first week can they come again?
A: It depends on availability. All camps are first come, first served.
