Why
Members are a great way to maintain a steady pool of volunteers
to help in the day-to-day running of our theatre. Members can form
committees to tackle areas such as ushering, concessions, lawn maintenance,
reservations and phone answering, as well as set construction and
backstage help.
In recent years we seem to have the same core group of individuals
doing most of the work. If we encourage people to become members
and stay involved for more than one production, perhaps we will
have a larger workforce to pull from.
How
Membership in NTC is structured as making a commitment rather than
a monetary donation.
To become a member of NTC, a person must commit to volunteering
a minimum of 10 hours each quarter, or a total of 40 hours per
year. All areas of work are eligible to count toward the total
except for time spent in a performance role in a production. In
other words, backstage help, front of house, set construction,
makeup, props, concessions, general facility maintenance – are eligible activities.
Starring in MAME is not! We feel the benefit of performing and the
experience is reward enough – we need people to help us with
the less glamorous jobs!
Once you have signed your Membership Form, you will be issued a
card with a member number. When you perform volunteer work, you
must have your card punched and the time recorded by either the
director, producer, artistic director, or any other Board of Directors
member in attendance. Quarterly hours will be tabulated and a running
total kept in a database.
OK, So What Do I Get?
In the past, members asked “what benefit to me is there in
being a member of NTC?” Good question. Not many. In developing
this new membership plan, we took those questions into account
and the result is some nice member benefits we think you will enjoy.
FREE TICKETS
– Every member who completes their quarterly
hour commitment will receive two tickets to any production.
$2 OFF – Members
in good standing receive $2 off any ticket purchase.
FREE FOOD – Twice
a year we will host events open to members and season subscription
holders only. Our annual Gala will be one, and a late summer or
early fall Membership Meeting is being planned. Both events include
food, drinks, and entertainment. The Membership Meeting will be
the opportunity to hear the plans for the next season, vote on
board members, buy season tickets, and renew your membership!
INFORMATION – Members
will also receive a members-only newsletter and have special information
sent to them via email throughout the year. We have tried to maintain
our mailing list and a newsletter, but we have been very inconsistent.
This has become one of our major priorities in 2005.
A lot
of people have volunteered countless hours performing tasks such
as mowing the lawn, rewiring the C Building, painting the floor,
and renovating the bathrooms – and we thank everyone for
their support. Now, with the Membership Program, we will be able
to give back some benefits for their work.
Newnan
Theatre Company is growing. And as we grow, we
find more that needs to be done. So many residents of Newnan and
surrounding communities have offered support, and many of our season
subscribers have asked how they can become more involved. |
